More context

The Justice Department has charged former senior FBI officials Nikki Floris and Bradley Benavides with making false statements to Congress about their work on investigations involving Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden. Each faces one count, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Washington. The complaint alleges that, in 2023 testimony to the House Judiciary Committee, Floris and Benavides minimized their knowledge of the investigation and Biden’s laptop. Reuters reports it also alleges they had contact with the investigative team in 2020 and participated in the FBI’s response to public reporting about the laptop. The two had worked on the bureau’s now-dissolved Foreign Influence Task Force, Politico reported. They surrendered and appeared in court Friday and are due back Tuesday.
