More context

Typhoon Champi weakened to a tropical storm and moved north away from Taiwan toward China’s coast on Saturday, after sweeping past the island’s northeast. Reuters and AOL reported that it was not expected to make landfall in China. Taiwan’s fire department reported that one man died after waves swept him away from Liuqiu. Injury reports differed: the fire department reported 527 injured, while Anews said more than 600 had been injured since warnings began Thursday. Taiwan’s transport ministry reported 242 flights cancelled, down from almost 1,000 on Friday. Evacuation figures also differed: Anews reported more than 5,000 people evacuated, while Focus Taiwan, cited by AOL, reported close to 1,300. Anews said power had been restored to more than 90 percent of over 340,000 affected households.

Reporting

Verifier’s note

Multiple results report the same Champi event: one death, hundreds injured in Taiwan, and the storm heading north toward China. The earlier report Al Jazeera gives a lower injury count while the event was still developing, which does not contradict the later figures.
