IAEA chief Rafael Grossi saw no evidence of Iran restoring bombed nuclear sites
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi told the UN Security Council on Tuesday that the agency found no indication Iran had tried to repair or rebuild nuclear facilities damaged in U.S. and Israeli strikes in 2025 and 2026. He urged Tehran to grant inspectors access to all nuclear sites, including damaged facilities. Iran says its program is peaceful.
More context
Speaking to the UN Security Council on Tuesday, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said the agency had seen no evidence of Iranian efforts to restore sites damaged in U.S. and Israeli attacks in 2025 and 2026. “Since June 2025, we have not identified any activity to repair or reconstruct any of the facilities damaged in the military attacks of 2025 and 2026,” he said. Grossi urged Iran to allow inspectors into all its nuclear facilities, including damaged sites, and to answer outstanding questions from the agency. The IAEA has been unable to verify the status of Iran’s near-weapons-grade uranium stockpile since the United States bombed its nuclear sites in 2025. Its ability to assess Iran’s nuclear activities remains constrained by lack of access to most sites. Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful.
