Published

Twenty-two super PACs registered with the Federal Election Commission during the final 10 weeks before Election Day each spent at least $1 million on congressional races, CNBC’s analysis found. By Oct. 29, they had reported roughly $637 million in independent expenditures, about one-sixth of all independent spending reported in House and Senate races this election cycle.

More context

Twenty-two super PACs registered with the Federal Election Commission during the 10 weeks leading up to Election Day, with each spending at least $1 million on 2026 congressional races, according to a CNBC analysis. Together, they had reported roughly $637 million in independent expenditures by Oct. 29, equivalent to roughly 16% of all independent spending disclosed in House and Senate contests this election cycle. The number of million-dollar late-forming super PACs has more than quadrupled since 2022, while their spending has grown nearly 35-fold. Eighteen of the 22 began spending within 30 days of launching, and almost all started spending before filing a regular report showing where their money came from. One group, Our Heritage Matters, registered Oct. 15 and spent about $1.2 million across 10 races by Oct. 29. Its first regular report identifying donors is not due until Dec. 3.

Verifier’s note

CNBC reports that 22 late-forming super PACs spent about $637 million by Oct. 29, sometimes before their donors were visible to voters. Traders Union and KuCoin also report the $637 million claim, but appear to summarize the same analysis rather than provide independent reporting.
