New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Donald Trump agreed to grant a visa to the mother of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, who was shot in the abdomen on his way to school in the Bronx Thursday and later died. Mamdani said he spoke with Trump Saturday. Police have made no arrests, and the killing remains under investigation.

More context

Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Donald Trump had committed to promptly issuing a visa for Javits Frimpong’s mother, after the 15-year-old was fatally shot in the Bronx. Mamdani said on X Saturday that he had spoken with Trump and that Frimpong’s mother deserved to say goodbye to her son in person.

Police said Frimpong was shot in the abdomen Thursday morning while on his way to school and died at a hospital later that day. He had moved from Ghana to live with his father about a year ago, Representative Ritchie Torres said. No arrests had been made, and police were investigating. Ghana’s Foreign Minister Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa said Ghanaian officials were coordinating with Frimpong’s mother to help with her visa application. Deutsche Welle reported that the White House had not commented on the call.
