Russia is sending a more senior diplomatic and military delegation to next week’s U.S.-brokered talks with Ukraine in Abu Dhabi, the Kremlin confirmed Friday, Politico reported. The talks are scheduled for Nov. 10 and 11 and will be the first trilateral meeting since February, CNBC reported.
Politico said the delegation includes presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, Deputy Foreign Ministers Sergei Ryabkov and Mikhail Galuzin, and senior General Staff officials Igor Kostyukov and Yuri Zhigarlovsky. CNBC described Medinsky as a Kremlin aide and identified Kostyukov as military intelligence chief and Zhigarlovsky as a senior General Staff officer.
Putin discussed the negotiations with his Security Council on Friday and invited the officials, Politico said. Politico said the senior lineup may signal that Moscow gives the talks greater weight, but the Kremlin has not indicated a change in its negotiating position.
